چکیده
Background: Upper GI endoscopy is an established procedure for investigating a wide range of upper conditions especially inflammatory and malignant diseases stomach esophagus. A good correlation in diagnosis can be achieved by complementing endoscopic findings with histopathology biopsy specimens.
Methods: Both retrospective prospective study was carried out at department pathology, KIMS, Hubli during January 2016 to December 2018. Samples were received 10% formalin; routine processing followed H & E staining. Special stain like Giemsa done detection H. Pylori. 396 mucosal biopsies analyzed evaluated.
Result: Out cases, 250 cases esophageal biopsies, 104 gastric 42 duodenal biopsies. The male: female ratio 1:9:1. highest number seen between 61 70 years. Dyspepsia the common symptom 61.3%. most lesions encountered esophagus carcinomas (67%) esophagitis (16%). commonly lesion chronic gastritis 54.8% pylori being positive 38.18%. Among non-neoplastic (59.5%) neoplastic (26%).
Conclusion: effective appropriate preliminary investigation assess patients dysphagia, dyspepsia, vomiting. Endoscopy without incomplete that combination methods offers strong diagnostic tool better patient care.
